The Geraki Castle

The Geraki Castle in Laconia represents an earthly time capsule, where history meets the modern era. Built at an altitude of 330 meters, on the western slopes of Mount Parnon, Geraki is one of the most traditional settlements in the region.

The environment of Geraki Castle highlights a unique coexistence of past and present. The old stone mansions, the 19th-century shops, and the impressive architecture of the Georgios Maroudis House of 1907 keep the memory of the past alive. After the Fall of Constantinople, Geraki belonged to the so-called Frankish Principality and emerged as a baronial seat with significant geopolitical importance. The construction of the castle in 1209-1210 represents a significant chapter in the history of the region, making Geraki an integral part of the cultural and historical fabric of Laconia.
