Welcome to Gerolimenas, also known as the Sacred Port, one of the most impressive villages in the Peloponnese. Gerolimenas enjoys the blessing of its natural harbor, which gave it its name, and is located at the edge of the bay of the same name in Southern Mani.
During the period of Ottoman rule, Gerolimenas was known as a bustling pirate port. Until the 1870s, it was an isolated place without dwellings. However, during that time, the merchant Michalis Katsimantis built a tower and a pier for the commercial exploitation of Mani. This move led to the residential development of the area, as other residents from the surrounding villages of Niklianiko and Katopagio settled here. This marked an era of tremendous growth for the village. Simultaneously, Gerolimenas emerged as a significant trading post for sponge diving, with destinations reaching North Africa.
Today, Gerolimenas has transformed into a popular tourist destination, offering a plethora of choices in hotels, restaurants, and cafes. Visitors can enjoy its picturesque corners, traditional architecture, and stunning sea views, as well as explore its rich history.
