The Church of Agia Sophia in Laconia, a treasure of the Byzantine period, constitutes a striking landmark in the archaeological site of Mystras. This church, erected in the mid-14th century, is part of the monastery founded by the first Despot of Morea, Manuel Kantakouzenos.
During the Ottoman period, it was converted into a mosque, adding an additional historical layer to its multifaceted history. Situated in a pivotal location on the northern slope of the Mystras fortress-town, near the upper gate of the citadel and the Palace of Mystras.
